As a Domiciliary Child Care Worker, you'll support children with varying needs within their own homes and the community. Unlike live-in or long shifts, domiciliary care focuses on shorter, structured visits to provide essential support, encourage independence, and build safe, trusting relationships.
Live-In Children’s Support Worker – Plymouth
Role Overview
As a Live-In Children’s Support Worker, your role is to provide consistent, high-quality care and support to a child within their own home. You may be working on a 1:1 basis or as part of a 2:1 package depending on the individual care plan. Your presence helps create stability, trust, and a safe environment where the child can thrive.
What the Role Involves
Being the main point of support for the child during your shifts
Supporting daily routines including mealtimes, bedtime, and school runs (if required)
Providing personal care (where required)
Assisting with medication management (if trained/authorised)
Encouraging independence, engagement, and social development
Building positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
Following the child’s care plan and family guidance at all times
Maintaining clear communication with the office and other carers
Recording shift notes, incidents, and updates accurately
Children You May Work With
Children with complex needs, health conditions, or behavioural challenges
Children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect
Children with neurodiverse conditions such as autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities
Every package is unique you’ll always be fully briefed before starting
Shift Patterns
Typical rota: 24 hours on / 24 hours off
Or several days on followed by several days off
Rotas are agreed in advance to ensure consistency for the child and balance for you
The Support You’ll Receive
Full handover and care plan before starting with each child
Ongoing guidance from the office team and regular check-ins
Additional training to build your confidence and skills
Where a 2:1 package is in place, you’ll work closely with another carer to share responsibilities

What We’ll Ask From You
Experience working with children (essential)
Previous experience with complex needs or additional needs (preferred but training provided)
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential)
Willingness to complete mandatory training and ongoing professional development
Clear DBS check (provided free of charge)

To reduce/prevent the number of hospital admissions or residential care placements
To support the safe discharge home following hospital admissions and placements in other residential settings.
To provide specific or urgent or time critical care support to individuals, to reduce the demand on other community and emergency service resources.
